Preventive
Maintenance Program
|
Periodic scheduled routine maintenance is the best way
to assure continued dependability of any electromechanical instrumentation.
Most of the manufacturers of laboratory equipment that Alert Scientific
represents recommend at least two thorough Preventive Maintenance
inspections per year, performed by qualified technicians.
At your request Alert Scientific, Inc. will provide a no-cost
survey of the equipment that we cover and make recommendations on those
items that should be considered for a Preventive Maintenance Program.
We will also provide a no-obligation quotation for this service, based
on your input from the survey.
Our semi-annual inspection program consists of cleaning all mechanical
and electrical components on each unit, and lubricating motors and drives
as required. Heater elements, compressors, and fan motors are checked
for correct amperage draw. Door seals, gaskets, hinges, and latches
are inspected for excessive wear. Governing temperature controls, chart
recorders, and safety thermostats will be tested for accuracy.
Ice is removed from ultra low temperature freezer sub lids and breaker
strips to prevent lid distortion and to assure refrigeration efficiency.
All CO2 and LN2 backup systems are tested, and
backup alarm and gassing batteries are load-checked as well. Refrigeration
systems are tested for specified temperature, voltage, and current.
Centrifuge brushes are checked, drive motors are cleaned of conductive
particles, and speed is verified using a digital speed tachometer. Tubes,
cups, carriers, and rotors are also examined for damage or pitting.
Imbalance and braking functions are checked, as well as lid latch, timer
operation, and pivot pin condition. Voltage and current load on drive
motor is verified, and cycle timer and lid latch safety interlock are
also checked.
CO2 incubator gas systems are leak checked. CO2 control accuracy
in chambers is verified using a Bacharach fyrite gas analyzer. Air pumps
are checked for output pressure accuracy. Air and gas filters are inspected
and replaced when deemed necessary, for the cost of the parts. Gas tubing
connections are inspected for proper fit.
Recommendations for repairs deemed necessary as a result of our Preventive
Maintenance inspection will be brought to your attention at the completion
of each inspection. Work will be completed in a timely manner, subject
to your approval and in compliance with the charging instructions required
by your facility.
As a Preventive Maintenance Contract Client, you are entitled to a 10%
discount off the standard labor rate for repairs during normal
business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday). For
emergency after hours calls (4:30 p.m. through 8:00 a.m., weekends and
holidays), the 10% discount will be taken off overtime rates. We offer
24-hour emergency service and you will receive service priority as a
contract client.
All Measurement Test Equipment used by Alert Scientific is calibrated
traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (N.I.S.T.).
Reference standard calibration certificates are on file, and copies
are available upon request.
An Alert Scientific "Activity Report" will be provided to you
following each PM inspection for your records. The report shows readings
taken on each piece of equipment, notes any abnormalities found during
our inspection, and provides recommendations for future repairs.
Using highly accurate instruments traceable to the National Institute
of Standards and Technology, a single point calibration of equipment
controls, displays, and/or chart recorders will be performed if
an instrument is found to be out of tolerance. An Alert Scientific
“N.I.S.T. Traceable” Sticker will be affixed to the equipment being
calibrated, indicating date of calibration, date the next calibration
is due, unit I.D.#, and the initials of the certifying technician. A
"Certificate of Calibration" is also available, if necessary, for a
nominal charge.
